Best Mattress Stores Online 2022: Simba to Emma

Shopping for a new mattress isn’t the kind of thing you do every day. Most people probably consider buying a new one only under specific circumstances; either they’re moving house, it’s been ten or so years since last buying a mattress, or they’re struggling to sleep or with back pain and need a change. Whichever scenario you may have found yourself in, this most likely means you aren’t that familiar with the range of mattress stores online.

While you may have heard of some of the bigger names thanks to their extensive marketing campaigns (we’ve all seen Simba’s bowling ball commercials and Emma’s London Underground posters), but now that mattress shopping has moved more online, choosing between brands can be complicated. While in the past, you may have just rolled up at a warehouse and lain on every mattress in sight until you found the right fit, now it’s about researching and figuring out what you need, and then relying on the extensive trial periods to make sure you’ve picked the right one.

To help you navigate the world of online mattress shopping we’ve compiled a list of our favourite online mattress stores and shops to start browsing. Whether you’re after a hybrid, pocket spring or memory foam mattress, these mattress stores are bound to leave you with an extra spring in your step. Happy sleeping.

Simba

  • Mattress types: Hybrid
  • Price: From £384 – £1,264

Having now been slept on by multiple members of the GQ team, Simba’s mattresses are without a doubt some of our favourites. Hybrid in design, they include both pocket springs and foam layers to strike a balance between comfort and support. Most of Simba’s mattresses are classed as medium-firm, with the foam surface creating a cushioned feel, while the pocket springs add some firmness. Depending on which mattress you choose (there are four in the collection), you’ll also find plenty of additional features, from breathable layers to a wool sleep surface in the Luxe. Our favourite has to be the Simba Pro for its careful balance of features and affordability. Shop the full collection at simbasleep.com

Simba Hybrid Luxe Mattress

Emma

  • Mattress types: Memory foam and hybrid
  • Price: £250 – £725

Like Simba, Emma is another heavyweight of the mattress world that’s been heralded time and time again. While the brand does offer both a memory foam and a ‘Premium’ hybrid mattress, it’s the memory foam ‘Original’ iteration that has garnered it so much success over the years, and has become a firm favourite with the GQ team. Designed with three layers of pressure-relieving foam, it incorporates spinal support and is breathable, while also being suitable for all sleeping positions and body types. If a memory foam mattress is on your list, you can sleep soundly knowing you got it from Emma. Shop the full collection at emma-sleep.co.uk
